This beautiful hymn by Martin Luther was set to music by Michelle Castle. The tune was arranged by Ashton Harat for a performance by a local homeschool choir in December of 2022, which the arranger conducted.

The arrangement opens with a solo (which can be replaced by SA unison) and develops from there into antiphonals with alleluias in the Tenors and Basses, before breaking into close four-part harmony, a cappella. The final verse modulates and quickens the tempo as the choir sings the words in unison before a glorious five-bar “alleluia” and a calm, joyous finale.

The words are an anthem to the incarnation and birth of Jesus. Perfect for Christmastime.
